American Association of Medical Colleges – Protecting America’s Uninsured

This site is a guide to programs providing care to the uninsured by region. Click on the region of interest to display a list of programs by state.



Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality – Questions and Answers About Health Insurance

This AHRQ website provides a link to the full text version of a guidebook for consumers which describes different kinds of health insurance plans and answers common questions.



American Association of Retired Persons (AARP)

AARP’s health insurance site contains information for Medicare beneficiaries and information on options for people who do not yet qualify for Medicare.



America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP)

AHIP is the national association for companies that provide health insurance to consumers and employers. The website includes statistics, information for consumers, and links to insurance companies.



Bureau of Primary Health Care

This is a searchable database of clinics that provide low-cost or free care to people without health insurance. Users can enter an address or zip code, or state and county for a list of clinics in their area.



Council for Affordable Health Insurance (CAHI)

CAHI develops and promotes free market solutions to increase access to health insurance, such as tax credits, health savings accounts, and medical liability reform. The site includes information for consumers.



Cover the Uninsured Week

This organization sponsors events for Cover the Uninsured Week in March. The site includes guides to finding and planning an event, fact sheets, and a state-by-state guide to finding health insurance.



Economic Research Initiative on the Uninsured (ERIU)

This site includes information about ERIU research and fast facts on the uninsured. There is also a Health Insurance Literature Database and a Data Set Directory that can be used to conduct research on the uninsured.



Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA)

This website from the U.S. Department of Labor provides information on life and work events and their effects on health benefits. It includes information on COBRA, HIPAA, mental health parity, retiree health benefits, and more.



Families USA

This site contains information on Medicaid, children’s health, Medicare, prescription drugs, the uninsured, private health insurance, minority health, and also includes state-specific information.



Financial Assistance and Other Resources for People with Cancer

This site from the National Cancer Institute includes a list of resources and links to information on sources of financial assistance for cancer care.



Foundation for Health Coverage Education

This organization helps uninsured people find coverage by offering an online database of programs, state-by-state guides, and the Uninsured Help Line (1-800-234-1317)



Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF)

This site includes data and reports on health coverage and the uninsured, Medicaid/SCHIP, Medicare, state health facts, and the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured.



Insurance Information Institute

The III provides information on health insurance for consumers, including types of health insurance, how to pick a health plan, and links to other resources.



Insure Kids Now

This is the website of the federal State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which provides free or low-cost health insurance for children. The site has links to each state’s program.



Medicaid Home Page

This site includes Medicaid information for states and territories as well as Medicaid information for consumers.



Medicare.gov

This site contains information for Medicare beneficiaries including health plan options, covered benefits, and rates.



MedlinePlus – Health Insurance

From the National Library of Medicine, this site for consumers includes information on health insurance.



National Center for Health Statistics – Health Insurance Coverage

This site has statistics on health insurance coverage for adults and children and links to tables and reports from the National Health Interview Survey and Health, United States.



Office of Minority Health: Finding Low-Cost Health Care 101

This website has a list of resources on finding low-cost health care for people who are uninsured or unable to afford medical care.



Planned Parenthood Federation of America

http://www.plannedparenthood.org

PPFA health centers offer services including birth control, gynecological exams, STD testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, and abortion. Lists of health centers by area are available on the website or by calling 1-800-230-PLAN.



U.S. Census Bureau Health Insurance Data

This site includes links to Current Population Reports – Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States. It includes statistics on people with and without health coverage.
