The Ohio State University's Moritz College of Law provides thorough curriculum to prepare individuals for becoming lawyers. The college's 145 courses highlight almost every aspect of the law, and some courses focus on developing hard skills needed to practice law. The required courses for graduation include civil procedure, contracts, criminal law, torts, constitutional law, legislation, property and appellate advocacy. Students also must take clinical courses in legal research and writing. On average, each enrolling class is comprised of 225 students, more than half of which has been in the workforce for at least one year. The college maintains a student-faculty ratio of 13:1, and typical first-year class sizes range from 18 to 80 students. The college's location in Ohio's capital city of Columbus offers students exposure to federal, state and municipal courts along with hundreds of law firms. Students who complete the program are prepared with a deep understanding of the law along with solid writing and research skills. Upon graduation and passing of the appropriate state bar exam, students move on to become practicing lawyers within law firms of all sizes, Fortune 500 companies or nonprofit organizations.
